HAVE A SEAT
Looking for furniture your fashionable neighbors have yet to discover?
RICHARD HIGBY
as dazzled Chicago with his custom-made designs,
combining materials like wood and concrete to create contemporary
pieces that stand out from most furniture you'll find in stores.
While Higby
can't cite just one influence for his work, he admits that architecture
inspires him. "I'll see a shape or material that creates
thoughts, and I go
from there," he says. Higby is currently working with Padma's
Plantation
in Chicago, which is producing three of his lines, and he's also
interested
in designing complete environments, like hair salons. But he still
enjoys
the challenge of creating individual pieces. "Everything.
l do is different
because people are so different," he says. -Anuja
